Athlete Handbook#
The Athlete Handbook provides fencers, coaches, administrators, and parents the information pertinent to all aspects of USA Fencing programs. Periodic updates may occur during the season; these updates to the book will be communicated to the membership via postings to this page. 2024-25 Athlete Handbook Changelog
This section contains a list of changes to the 2024-25 Athlete Handbook made after its initial publication date.
- Oct. 23, 2024 — Added SJCC format to table 2.16.1
- Oct. 30, 2024 — Added V40 information throughout the Veteran section, now that V40 will be added to the 2025 Veteran Fencing World Championships.
- Nov. 4, 2024 — Updated/corrected table of birth year eligibility for FIE Veterans World Championships
- Nov. 5, 2024 — Removed this sentence on Page 39: “For Y8 competitions, all fencers must use only a size 0 blade” after the Board repealed that change.
- Nov. 15, 2024 — Updated Page 40 to clarify the Veteran bout format protocols. Updated Page 88 to clarify number of touches in a bout.
Jan. 23, 2025 — Added parafencing info to table in section 2.1.5. On Page 14, added language indicating Top 40% of finishers in Junior and Cadet at IRC will qualify for JOs and that the Top 40% of finishers in Y10, Y12 and Y14 at IRC will earn qualification to Summer Nationals. Clarified qualification pathways for Division I and Division IA championships in section 2.12.5.
USA Fencing Rulebook#
The USA Fencing Rulebook pertains to all sanctioned events held within the United States. It incorporates the most recent FIE rules changes, using terms commonly used in American fencing.
The ongoing publication of an American version of the FIE Rules has been carried out under the auspices of the USA Fencing Referees' Commission, and we thank them for their dedication to USA Fencing.
