COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The new year kicked off with the Team USA senior squads bringing home some new hardware.
The women’s foil team competed in the Hong Kong World Cup, where Jaelyn Liu headlined the competition bringing home gold. This is Liu’s first medal on the senior circuit, and is the youngest U.S Women’s Foil fencer ever to win a World Cup gold.
Liu faced teammate Lee Kiefer OLY in the Round of 32, where she ultimately won. Before Liu got a chance to fence against Kiefer in 2021, when she was just 12, she said that it “might be my greatest achievement if I ever get to fence her.”
On the final day of competition in Hong Kong, Team USA earned a silver medal in the team event. Representing the U.S. was Delphine Devore, Lee Keifer OLY, Maia Weintraub OLY, and Lauren Scruggs OLY.
In Paris, the Men’s Foil team competed in the Paris World Cup, where Alex Massialas OLY represented the U.S. on the podium with a silver medal.
Massialas, the Stanford Fencing Head Coach, has now medaled at all senior tournaments in the 2024-25 season. He took gold in Tunis, silver in Paris, and bronze in Takasaki.
The team of Gerek Meinhardt OLY, Massialas OLY, Nick Itkin OLY, and Chase Emmer claimed bronze on day three of the Paris World Cup
