While Team USA missed the podium on Sunday, Nathaniel Wimmer’s sixth-place result and five total top-32 finishes demonstrate promising strength and depth heading into the event’s final days.

WUXI, China — Not every strong performance at a World Championships earns a medal, but every bout offers valuable experience and points toward future success.

That was true on Sunday at the 2025 Junior & Cadet Fencing World Championships in Wuxi, China, where Team USA’s Junior Epee fencers delivered solid results against some of the toughest competitors on the international stage.

Nathaniel Wimmer (Elite Fencing Academy) earned Team USA’s highest finish of the day, placing sixth in Junior Men’s Epee. Wimmer fenced consistently and confidently throughout the tournament, narrowly missing a spot in the medal rounds.

Samuel Imrek (St. John's University, Alliance Fencing Academy) also impressed with an 11th-place result, while Sophia Jakel (Columbia University, DC Fencers Club) led Team USA’s women’s contingent, finishing 18th.

Heading into the final two days of competition — featuring Cadet Epee and Junior Epee Team events — Team USA continues to lead the overall medal count with 11 total medals and holds the gold medal lead with seven.
