September 5 Paralympics Preview: Women’s and Men's Foil Team Event

by Nicole Kirk

PARIS, France - The newly minted Team USA Paralympians will take to the world stage together to fence in the women’s and men’s foil team events.

After a day of individual competition, there was a lot of learning, and prepping for team day as Team USA athletes got a feel for the environment of fencing in the Grand Palais.

The women’s team will feature Ellen Geddes, Tori Isaacson and Jataya Taylor. They are slated to fence against Italy in the Round of 8. The men’s team is composed of Byron Branch, Noah Hanssen and Garrett Schoonover. The team will fence Brazil in the Round of 16.

The teams will be ready to go as they learned the environment of the Paralympics is vastly different than a World Cup, “"Today was quite an eye-opener really, because of the atmosphere, how big the building is. It's a lot different from regular World Cups, which are usually really quiet, not a mouse, very small," says Branch.

The tournament format starts with the Round of 16 beginning at 4:00 a.m. ET (10:00 a.m. Paris time).

As the tournament progresses, competition continues uninterrupted through the semifinals. Then there’s a two-hour break so the morning/afternoon session ticket holders can leave and make way for the evening session attendees.

The evening session begins at 11:30 a.m. ET (5:30 p.m. Paris) with the semifinals, bronze medal bouts and gold medal bouts, followed immediately by the victory ceremonies for each category.

Select bouts are streamed live on Peacock and NBCOlympics.com (streaming schedule).
