USA Fencing Announces “How to Fence” Video Contest, With $1,000 to Winning Submission
by Bryan Wendell
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Gather your fencing friends, grab a camera and put your creativity into action. USA Fencing invites you to showcase your creativity and passion for fencing in our “How to Fence” video contest.
The challenge? Break down the art and thrill of fencing in just three minutes or less. We want to see how you would introduce fencing to newcomers, covering everything from the essentials of scoring to what makes our sport exciting and safe.
For some, a chance to become famous within the fencing community will be its own prize. But for everyone else, we’re offering a $1,000 cash prize for the winning video. Two runners-up will each receive a $250 USA Fencing x Macron Store gift card.
What to Include #
In your video, you must highlight the following:
- The three fencing weapons: Describe the unique equipment, target areas and rules for epee, foil and saber.
- How a touch is scored: Share what counts as a successful touch for each weapon.
- Winning a bout: Explain the basics of a fencing bout and how victory is determined.
- Safety in fencing: Newcomers are often surprised to learn that fencing is one of the safest sports out there. Cover the measures that keep fencers safe, like protective gear and rules.
- The fun factor: Show why fencing is a blast, from the adrenaline rush to the camaraderie.
- And more: In addition to the above, include anything else that will make your video stand out! While we know that not all clubs offer parafencing (yet), bonus points if you can include parafencing in your video!
Be creative!
