That’s right: Applications are now being accepted for the USA Fencing Leadership Academy’s Class of 2024.
This unique program offers comprehensive training and educational opportunities for those keen to contribute to the leadership and growth of USA Fencing. It’s a great fit for those looking to gain a deeper understanding of USA Fencing's operations and ideal for anyone interested in a position on a USA Fencing committee or the USA Fencing Board of Directors.
The curriculum covers a diverse range of topics, including USA Fencing’s history, governance, refereeing, finances, the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC), youth fencing development, USA Fencing events and event site selection, membership, and much more.
Applications for this 10-month program are now being accepted online, and the final deadline to submit applications is Friday, July 1, 2023.
Since its inaugural class in 2021, the Leadership Academy has remained committed to fostering a diverse array of future leaders who will ensure that USA Fencing continues to thrive as a strong, diverse, and equitable organization.
The 20 individuals selected to be part of the Class of 2024 will participate in monthly training sessions, each lasting approximately three hours. These sessions will be held on one Wednesday each month, with the exact schedule to be finalized.
The first session is anticipated to commence in September 2023, culminating in the final session in June 2024. Graduates of the program will then be honored in person at the 2024 Summer Nationals in Columbus, Ohio.
Selection criteria will primarily focus on the applicant's ability to commit to attending and participating in the entire program, their interest in the governance of USA Fencing, and their current involvement in the sport. To be eligible for graduation, candidates are required to attend at least 80% of the sessions (or eight out of 10).
The USA Fencing Leadership Academy is a can’t-miss opportunity for those looking to immerse themselves in the world of fencing governance, to learn from industry professionals and to shape the future of our sport. We sincerely hope you’ll consider applying.
