One of the following types of USA Fencing memberships/licenses is required for the IRC:

International Competitive License (Non-U.S. Athletes) - $115

USA Fencing Competitive Membership (U.S. Citizens) -  $99

The tournament is open to USA Fencing members with either of those membership types, regardless of where you live. That means USA Fencing members living either in the U.S. or abroad are eligible to compete!

Disclaimer: Starting in August 2024, all fencers will need to upload their birth certificate, passport, or U.S. license to their profile to satisfy  the proof of age requirement for all USA Fencing events. 

Cadet and Junior

All athletes that place in the top 32 of the combined IRC list for Junior and Cadet, are eligible to compete in these events at the July Challenge.

Youth Categories

In addition, international youth athletes that fence in an IRC in Y10, Y12 and/or Y14 will meet the prerequisite for fencing in the March Youth NAC.  

For U.S. athletes living abroad that fence in an IRC in Y10, Y12 and/or Y14, they will qualify for 2025 Summer Nationals for each respective event that they place in the top 40%. International fencers are not allowed to qualify for youth events at Summer Nationals as those age categories are U.S. championship events. 


What is the tournament format?
Tournament format will be the same as it is at all USA Fencing national tournaments. Pool play will start the event with Direct Elimination following after. Direct Elimination will be 15 touch bouts for all age groups except Y10 which will be 10 touch bouts.
What are the blade and equipment rules regarding the event?
In Y10, competitors can use either a size 0 or 2 blade. In Y12 and up, a size 5 blade can be used. Regarding uniforms, the name on the back is not required. Fencing gear does not need to be FIE certified besides saber gloves.
What will they be checking at equipment check?
Equipment check will be the same as it is at USA Fencing events.
  • Mask

  • Glove (Saber gloves must be FIE certified)

  • Up to three body cords

  • Up to three mask cords

  • Lame (Foil and Sabre)

We will not be checking whites (uniforms) or blades. We apologize for the confusion that took place at Wuxi during the first day of equipment check.
Will equipment check be provided the day before competition?
Yes, equipment check will be offered Friday afternoon on December 27th. Location will be announced at a later time. Please note that you will not be able to practice on the 27th.
Will there be an opportunity to purchase equipment?
Absolute Fencing will have an equipment store at the venue. More information on that to come.
Can I bring my coach?
Absolutely! Coaches can attend the IRC in Guangzhou. Please have your coach bring proof of coach certification provided by their country's respective national governing body and they can pick up a coaching credential at the coach registration area when they arrive at the venue.
Please note that during pools, no coaches will be allowed in the competition area and will have to stand outside the barriers. Coaches will be able to enter and coach strip side starting with the direct elimination bouts.
Are there national points awarded for competing at this event?
No national points are awarded for competing in this tournament, only qualification for the 2025 March North American Cup (international fencers) and 2025 Summer Nationals (July Challenge events for international fencers and National Championships for U.S Citizens or U.S. citizens living abroad only).
